Sensei Mercado

Sensei Joji Mercado, 7th Dan

Sensei Mercado has been training Shotokan Karate since 1979. He is a 7th degree blackbelt (Shichidan) registered with the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) . He has been providing martial arts instruction to kids and adults for over 34 years. He has successfully competed in both Kata (form) and Kumite (sparring) events at Local, Regional, National and International Tournaments.

He is a graduate of the ISKF Instructors Training Course and is an official instructor and examiner. He is the Assistant Director of the ISKF Northwest Region and a member of the ISKF Technical Committee. He is also a certified international referee and judge, and presently judges traditional karate tournaments at national and international events. This certification enhances a Sensei's ability to guide students in competition training.

Sensei Mercado is a dedicated instructor and practitioner who enthusiastically shares his knowledge and experience with his students. He is a teacher devoted to instilling a joy of Karate in his students and blends a passion for tradition with a large dose of fun.

Sensei Mercado is proud to have learned from Shotokan legendary instructors Shihan Yutaka Yaguchi and Shihan Teruyuki Okazaki, not just the physicality of Karate but the spirit of Karate as well.
